Well the new shop, Spruce Collective, is open and in full swing! It’s been a whirlwind of activity lately, but now that we’re getting into a routine with running the shop, adding lovely new inventory, booking classes, and *ahem, gearing up for the Christmas season, it’s great to step back and see how far we’ve come in just a short period of time. Cheddar Booth set up their AMAZING photo booth in our Workshop, and was a huge hit for the night (especially for the 5 of us)!

On the left, you get a sneak peek of some our rental inventory that is set up in The Workshop.

So far, it has been a blast, and because Life likes to hand out surprises every now and then, the business has continued to evolve even after we opened the doors. This has lead to some big changes happening for my wee little rental business – instead of just having a studio space at Spruce, we have decided to merge Trove Vintage Rentals with Spruce Collective as one collaborative business. What does this mean? Well, as the rental division, Trove will keep it’s name, but will be run by the lot of us. More specifically, what it means for anyone planning a funky event – you will very soon be able to preview our full inventory at the shop. You will also see some changes to the website www.trovevintage.com, including a brand spanking new inventory page with tonnes of new pieces, as well as an easily accessed price menu. I will be saying bye bye to the blog, but to see what’s happening and get all the updates, just like our Spruce Collective Facebook page.

This has been an amazing and busy Summer full of great weddings and wonderful people. Not knowing what to expect for our second wedding season, I can see now that next year we’ll be needing some extra help. To make this Summer even more of a whirlwind, there have been a few extra crazy projects on the go, including renovations at our own home, which include a now standing and packed-full shop for a lot of our inventory! But an even more exciting project has been a recent development that I am so fortunate to be a part of. Not too long ago I was approached by the lovely Lily of Birch + Bird Vintage Home Interiors to join her and three other AMAZING vintage sellers in opening a storefront in a fantastic building in Downtown Abbotsford. In early fall we will be opening the doors of Spruce Collective!

This is no ordinary shop – the front of the building will be entirely retail. This will include some of the best vintage goodies brought to you by Twig Home, Red Wicker, Home Sweet Nest, and Birch + Bird. We will also be including some fabulous hand crafted products by local vendors, some of our favourite new products, and a specialty paint line. We may even have a few other surprises up our sleeves!

Here is where it gets really fun – in the back of the shoppe, we will offer an array of great diy classes, host some great parties, and rent out the space for your own small affairs. This is also where you’ll find me. I will have all of my smaller items on display for some up close and personal previewing, as well as a very comfy area set up for free consultations! All in all, this is going to be an amazing space to come and visit, shop, sit, relax, chat, and take in some serious vintage visuals. I’ll keep everyone posted on our opening date and maybe a few sneak peeks as we finish getting set up :)

Spring is finally here on the west coast – Hallelujah! The flowers are blooming, and my sandals have come out of hiding (it’s still a bit cold for naked toes, but if the sun’s making an effort, so can I!)

I realize yet again that I have checked out of blog land for a while, but with the season packed full of lovely weddings, I have been busy collecting and planning, not to mention we have some major renovations starting on our home that leaves everything a little crazy. Instead of finding a storage spot that would suffice, we have decided to build one instead! Soon enough our property will contain a large shop and studio for anyone wanting a preview on the goods. I’ll make sure to keep posting the progress for this big project :)

We have lots of new treasures that I’ll be getting up on the site soon, but I’ll leave you today with a little refinishing project I’ve been working on that will be making an appearance in an upcoming styled shoot…

Those of course are the “before” photos with dated fabric and worn out insides, but with a little love (teak oil) and care (gorgeous gray linen upholstery), I was able to give a new life to these vintage chairs, and they are now quite the good-looking couple, if I do say so myself!

It has been a beautiful couple of days here in the lower mainland, and my fingers are crossed that this glimps of spring will  hang around for a bit longer. Because of the sunshine, I was able to snap a few photos of some Trove goodies. A few pieces have been added to the inventory, but I couldn’t resist spotlighting this super cute find…

I stared at this piece for a while before taking a picture, wishing I was out cruising around on it at a park, but as I am trying to make a strong effort at crossing of most of my to-do’s before the end of the week, it’ll have to wait for another sunny day.

This is a perfect piece for engagement or bridal photos, and makes for a pretty prop adorned with flowers too!

Happy February everyone! I love February. That may have something to do with it being my birthday this month, but there are  other reasons. Usually February is when we start to get a bit of a peek into spring after a long, cold and wet winter. Even as I write this, the sun is trying to poke his head out from behind the clouds. February also holds a special landmark for Trove as it is about a year ago that we officially started this business. And then there is the “holiday” of February – Valentine’s Day. I wouldn’t say that Valentine’s day is my favorite celebration of the year, but I do enjoy an extra excuse to have a fun date night with the hubby as well as feed my heavy chocolate addiction. With Trove being a part of the Wedding Industry, we get to celebrate a lot of love throughout the year, and we wanted to do something special for our supporters on the universal “love day”… so we’re doing a giveaway!

  Up for grabs is this Vintage Valentine’s Box with some cute and delicious goodies. Pick Of the week

Ok, so it should be more like pick of the month with the rate I’m going at, but believe me – if I wasn’t so dependent on using the natural light outdoors, it would be a lot easier to keep up. Last week was a snowy one, and today seems as though you could drown as soon as you step out of the house. I miss Summer.

To rebel against these dreary gray skies, I am going to share some new members of the Trove collection that aren’t scared to show a little colour!

Meet Lucy the royal blue loveseat and matching chair. These pieces look stunning in a neutral setting to give a punch of colour, but if you’re not afraid to go bright, spice them up with accent colours of red, coral or yellow.

With Valentine’s Day less than a month away, I just had to add a photo of this little beauty – Amora the cherry red chair. With a name that means “love” and a colour that matches, this is a perfect piece for a sweetheart photo shoot or, if you dare, perhaps a boudoir session.

Welcome 2012!

Happy New Year! I hope you all had an amazing holiday, and had a great time bringing in 2012.  This past year was definitely a memorable one as it was about one year ago that my dream of opening Trove quite quickly became a reality. I am so thankful for all of the support I have received from family and friends, and am especially grateful for all of the brides and grooms, wedding coordinators, and other people of the industry that helped make this a very successful first year. I’m looking forward to continuing to grow this business, and meeting lots of new faces along the way. So far 2012 is shaping up to be a busy year, and there will be a few extra exciting things happening with Trove in the months to come.

One of my favorite things of the new year is when the Pantone color of the year is announced. It is the artist in me that gets excited over silly things like this. Although there are many color trends that are highlighted for the coming year, there’s always one that makes first place and for 2012 that color is Tangerine Tango.

I am especially happy over this choice as orange has always been one of my favorite colors. Even Frank Sinatra has been quoted to say that “Orange is the happiest color”. But of course this isn’t just any orange – it’s tangerine. A beautiful red-orange that is both fun and sophisticated. Matched with soft green hues it would make for a perfect spring time affair pallet, or pair it against a cobalt blue for a fun moroccan twist. Especially for a vintage wedding, this color would be perfect used in small doses for that extra pop against softer tones of white, cream and gray. Here are some great ways to add some tangerine dream to your event:

Happy Holidays!

Once again I have abandoned blog land for a while – many apologies. Now that it is the week of Christmas, things are a bit slower around here as the biggest things to do on my list are wrapping gifts and getting some visits in with family and friends. I hope everyone else out there is taking a chance to truly enjoy the season amidst the hustle and bustle.

Since I haven’t been keeping up on here lately, I thought I’d take this opportunity to do a bit of a recap on what’s been going on with Trove. It’s a bit of a lazy approach to blogging trying to fit a couple months into one post, but it works. First off, I participated in The Christmas Fieldstone Market by setting up a photo booth for Jayme Anne Photography. It was a great set up for family photos and the entire day was super fun as well as incredibly cold. Jayme was able to take a few shots before the crowds started flowing in…

I was able to snag a few goodies at this market and am slowly, but surely getting all of the new inventory updated to the site. Just before the market, Ryan and I took a little trip across the line for a bit of a get-away. It was a short, but sweet trip and included a day of Christmas shopping in Portland, some down time by the stormy sea in Cannon Beach, and a wee bit of antiquing in Astoria on the way home…
